In this modern day, so many things can be learned online. As daunting as it may seem, singing is one of those things for sure. Just like anything else that needs to be learned, singing lessons requires quite a lot of dedication and effort to master and accomplish. Care must be taken however to not overstrain the vocal cords, it is important to understand that learning is a process that can take a bit of time.
The key to being a good singer is simply giving yourself extensive vocal exercises. This needs to be a very regular and consistent exercise in order to attain any significant improvement. About five to ten minutes of exercising vocals is actually sufficient to give radical results.
Here are a few exercises that can change the way that you singing and give you a brand new impressive sound;
1. The hums
This exercise can be done any time of the day. It is the simplest and most basic way to improve your singing. The duration for this exercise per day is totally unlimited and can even be done concurrently with other daily activities hence they require no set-aside time resource.
Practise the basic 5 tone scale of hums which is simply different humming pitches from high to low at a semi quick pace which can also be gradually varied. If you are doing it right, the lower tones should cause a buzzing feeling in your mouth. Vocal codes during this exercise are totally protected because humming is done with the mouth closed. Putting your tongue at the roof of the mouth during this exercise can greatly improve the experience.
2. The lip roll
This is a pretty weird yet effective method way of practising vocals which prompts one to press his or her chicks in lightly with the fingers and then blow with the jaws slightly ajar.
Repeat the 5 tone sound up and down the scale for just three to five minutes a day. These two exercises Improves both vocal range and vocal tonnes with results being pretty obvious in a week or two.
Generally, no one is tone deaf. This means that one can actually identify it then when they their singing is off pitch or off key.
Recording yourself while singing can help to make a better self-evaluation. More often than not, anyone singing can recognize that their singing tones are not matching with the actual song.
The key therefore is learning to master the control of your voice so that it maintains a constant and correct pitch which you are trying to achieve
Simply start small, give yourself a target note and practice consistently to attain the correct sound of that tone.
Casual ways of practising can actually remove the pressure from the exercise such as singing a very low key lullaby to a baby. This helps u relax and produce a better sound.

The tongue is one of the greatest inhibitor of singing abilities. It exerts too much pressure which only makes the sound worse. Control the sound by freeing the throat through
- Ya ya exercise
- The tongue must be at the bottom of the lip all the way out with a released relaxed jaw and let the tongue rest on top of the bottom lip and practice the ‘ya ya ya ya’ sound.
- This conditions the tongue to relax during the singing and strengthens your vocal control. Make sure the jaw is not moving, it limits your throat abilities and sound flow.
- The ‘ah ah ah’ exercises.
Make short and light pinpoint sound of ‘ah’ with a low key and high speed. Do not breathe out or make exhaling motion during the exercise and make an ‘h’ thick sound
During practices, be sure to keep a low sound and not pressure yourself into hitting high notes, these exercises will gradually strengthen your tone and teach you to relax while singing and produce a more impressive singing sound.
